Has a broad experience in video, film production and lighting technique, and has worked on several projects ranging from feature films to commercials and TV series both in Europe and the Middle East.
Working as a Lighting Cameraman (DOP), director and producer with a long track record of success in feature films, short films, corporate films and commercials, both in HD video & film.
Has also worked in the Norwegian state television NRK as Lighting cameraman in various programs.
Zulfikar Fahmy has extensive experience within teaching and working as an instructor since 1995 to the present date, particularly within workshops, both in camera training and lighting technique.
He is working as a tutor and instructor at the University of Bergen, Norway, holding courses and workshops for Bachelor Grade and Master Grade students in practical lighting and filming for television and film.
'Hands on' and 'know how' are his prime tasks when he holds his workshops: Understanding the art and technique of film making, preparing the delegates for the real world, how to act professionally, how to use the equipment and challenge the participants to develop their own creativity skills.
One of his strong attributes in teaching is to challenge the participants to develop their own creativity skills. Having Arabic as his native language, it has helped him while holding various assignments and workshops for the camera operators and lighting cameramen in the art and craft of lighting and camera work for television. These took place in Qatar, Sudan, Oman, Syria and Yemen.
Studied at The London International Film School - 1989 to 1991, a 2-year Diploma in the Art and Technique of Film Making, I obtained the Diploma with Distinction in Cinematography. Trained at The Academy of Drama, Film and Television, Budapest, Hungary - 1990. Also attended a training course in Practical Lighting in studio and locations at ARRI (GB) Lighting Academy in 2004.
Fahmy has written a few articles, reports, research and studies in film and video production.
